Alexandria Declared Certified Gigabit City Powered by Vexus Fiber

LUBBOCK, Texas-- 10/31/2024 -- (BUSINESS WIRE)--Vexus Fiber has officially declared the City of Alexandria, La. a Certified Gigabit City Powered by Vexus. This marks a major milestone for Alexandria along with Vexus now that the company’s ultra-high-speed, multigigabit fiber-optic network is available to a majority of households and businesses throughout the community.

"We're excited to announce that Alexandria has officially been certified as a Gigabit City powered by Vexus Fiber," said Mayor Jacques Roy. "This is an important step in building the foundation for a tech-forward Alexandria. High-speed internet is the great equalizer of the 21st century, and demand is higher than ever. By becoming a Gigabit City, we are laying the groundwork for growth, innovation, and opportunity, helping us realize our vision of Alexandria as a thriving tech hub."

Vexus has invested more than $30 million through private funding and laid more than 140 miles of fiber-optic lines throughout Alexandria. Construction began in November 2022 and continues to progress throughout the city.

“It’s an honor to deliver world-class internet speeds to the residents and businesses of Alexandria,” said Chris Fontenot, Vexus director of operations. “With this Gigabit City certification, Alexandria has access to connectivity at speeds typically found in the nation’s largest cities. This advancement enhances both the city’s quality of life and its economic growth.”

Vexus launched multigigabit speeds up to five gigabits / five gigabits for residential customers earlier this year. They have a variety of symmetrical speeds — meaning upload speeds are as fast as download speeds — available starting at 150 / 150 Mbps to suit every household need. Businesses can receive customizable connections at limitless multigigabit speeds to meet their specific needs and TeleCloud-hosted communication solutions that bring together phone, chat and video conferencing services in one platform.

"This is an exciting period of growth for Vexus," remarked Fontenot. "We're enhancing the services we offer, from multigigabit speeds to WholeHome WiFi, along with robust solutions for businesses. In addition, we’re expanding our local workforce in every market we operate, further strengthening our presence and support."

Vexus Fiber is part of Metronet, the country’s largest and fastest-growing privately owned fiber-to-the-home company. Together they operate fiber-to-the-home networks in more than 300 communities across 18 states and are actively expanding their fiber-optic network in 90 communities at any given time. In 2024, Metronet was named PCMag’s “Fastest Major ISP” for the second year in a row.

The designation "Certified Gigabit City Powered by Vexus” is earned once a majority of households and business locations in a community have access to Vexus’ symmetrical fiber-optic internet speeds of at least 1 Gigabit per second. The number of households and the number of business locations are based on U.S. Census Bureau data.
